Since May 1999, Carla has served as the Executive Director of Texas Academy of Palliative Medicine until her retirement in 2020. She has been instrumental in advocating for policy changes, developing innovative trainings for clinicians, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and increasing public awareness about the importance of hospice and palliative care.
Carla’s contribution as a Board Member of the Texas New Mexico Hospice & Palliative Care Organization from 2006 to 2012 further exemplifies her commitment to this field. During her tenure, she played a pivotal role in strategic planning and program development, significantly contributing to the improvement of hospice care services across both states. Her initiatives have left a lasting impact on how end-of-life care is administered, ensuring dignity and comfort for patients and their families.
