Barbara Davidson has been a nurse for over 40 years working in hospitals, LTC facilities and Hospice.
Barbara has been a Hospice nurse for over 15 (if it would have been 20, I would have nominated her for
the Lifetime Award). As a hospice nurse she has been a staff nurse, clinical administrator, Admissions
Nurse, Director of Nursing and currently our Nurse Consultant. She started her career as a certified nurse
aide, so she truly understands the value of their role in providing care to patients and their families. She
was a certified ELNEC trainer and is proficient in many EMR systems. What she doesn’t know she never
hesitates to learn. She is the definition of a life-long learner, continuously learning new skills and
competencies and always seeking knowledge to do her job better and to teach those around her.
Barbara is extremely knowledgeable in state and federal regulations, budgeting, establishing policies and
procedures, QAPI and team building.
Barbara received the TNMHO PCC of the year in 2010 while working at Hospice of the Pines. In 2017,
Barbara was awarded the Laura Jackson Oncology Nursing Award. This award recognizes nurses that
go above and beyond in the field of nursing. I just found the article and in true Barbara spirit her response
when receiving the award was to say, “I am deeply honored and grateful for this award, but it is dedicated
to the patients whom I have had the honor to serve.” She means it. She often refers to Hospice as
mission work and she has the utmost respect for all those that have chosen this is as their life work.
Barbara has been instrumental in our ongoing CHAP certification. We have been CHAP certified since 2001. Since her employment in 2013, she has been an integral part of the preparation and the survey
process and because of her diligence and attention to detail our last survey in 2022 was the most
successful one to date.
She is instrumental in our QAPI program and and is a huge part of our orientation and training program.
