Dr. Heather Veeder Receives the Charley Wasson Hospice Advocacy Award

I have worked in Hospice with Dr Veeder for eight plus years. As a Hospice physician and patient
advocate she has grown and lead the team, and community were service. Heather is doctor
with patience, who’s willing to listen in order to understand the patient’s goals and what’s important to
their life. She is comfortable with uncertainty, and very comfortable with her amazing clinical skills. Heather has play a key role in educating our communities and our leaders about our belief that each of us has the right to die pain-free and with dignity, and that our loved ones should receive the necessary support to allow us to do so.

Heather Veeder, MD, has been with VITAS Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care, since 2015. She joined VITAS as medical director in San Antonio, Texas, was promoted to senior medical director in 2018, and became regional medical director for VITAS’ Midwestern Division in 2019. Her mission is to prevent and alleviate suffering, meeting patients and their families where they are in their journey through advanced illness. Prior to joining VITAS, she worked in primary care and urgent care in Dayton, Ohio.

Board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine as well as Family Medicine, Dr. Veeder completed medical school and a Family Medicine residency from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine; she completed her Fellowship at UT Health San Antonio. Dr. Veeder earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. She received a Doctor of Musical Arts in music from University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma.

Dr. Veeder previously served on the board of directors for Abode Contemplative Care for the Dying in San Antonio, Texas. She is an active member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Texas New Mexico Hospice Organization, American Academy of Family Physicians, Texas Academy of Family Physicians, and the Gold Humanism Society. She also serves as Adjunct Faculty for UT Health San Antonio, working with fellows and other learners.

Education Subscription

The TNMHPO Education Subscription is for agencies who wish to provide on-demand education for the entire staff. This subscription is an add-on to a TNMHPO membership and can’t be purchased separately.

A TNMHPO Membership Plus Education Subscription gives members of the Texas New Mexico Hospice & Palliative Care Organization unlimited access to all archived online education for the entire year.  You can provide training to your current staff and utilize these educational opportunities for new employee orientation.  There are courses for every discipline on your hospice team and continuing education units and proof of attendance for Administrators, Nurses, Social Workers, and LPCs.

The optional education subscription may only be used by staff of the joining hospice agency, not to train partners, affiliates or sister organization staff. If your hospice is part of a home health, then the home health division will need to pay its own dues and education. 

TNMHPO reserves the right to limit users if we feel the system is being misused.
